Seeds of Hope

1,000 Rainforest Trees in a Truck

With the help of 2 men from a neighboring drug rehabilitation center, Marcio and Helio of Viviero Bom Jardin loaded a truck with 1,000 trees – far bigger in size than I’d expected – to take to Cunha this morning.

Pachamama, Awakening the Dreamer, Symposium held in Brazil

Yesterday we held the first Pachamama, Awakening the Dreamer, Symposium in Guaratingueta, Brazil. It was attended by two members of the Nativas Association who are working in partnership with Rainforest ECO, and are taking on the mission of spreading the vital information to their community, in Portuguese.

We persisted beyond limitations of computers and software and language, moving straight to the heart of what we can and will do together, to turn the tide of current events.

And today, we transport 1,000 rainforest trees to their planting sites as our committed action…

Our hearts are full of hope…

Thousands of Future Rainforest Trees

Yesterday I visited the seed collector for the Nativas Association, and was able to see the setting and the dedication of this man and his family, to collecting the native species seeds sustainably. The few sacks of seeds below were a fraction of what we brought back to the Co-op office, for planting by the nurseries next week. It’s time to start a new cycle of hope…

Tagging Mother Trees of the Rainforest

The nurserymen of the Nativas Association record the locations of Mother trees that provide the seed for the hundreds of Atlantic Rainforest species they grow. Their dedication and foresight will benefit the entire planet as the forest is replanted, and cloud cover increases once again.

Burned tree stumps amidst pioneer ferns

After fields have been slashed and burned to clear them, ferns are among the pioneer plants that come to restart the cycle of life…

Global Cooling made possible by Rainforest Clouds

Here’s an example of the cloud cover the rainforest creates. Scientists say a 2% increase in cloud cover is needed to turn the current trend toward Global Cooling. Replanting the deforested Mata Atlantica is a practical way to accomplish this.

Sunday Planting Plans

Despite a holiday weekend, my partners from Viveiro Bom Jardin are working with me on translations of documents (thank God for Google Translate!) to gain sponsorship for the increase of our reach, next year. These gentle men have taken me to 7 of the 13 nurseries in the association this last week. Now, from plants to paper, we make our trail to the future of a renewed Mata Atlantica…
